OLD TOWN – James W. Cunningham Sr., 88, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at an Orono nursing facility. He was born Dec. 15, 1917, in Old Town, son of the late Pearl G. and Nellie (Barker) Cunningham. Jim was a 1939 graduate of University of Maine, with a degree in mechanical engineering. After working during the war at Curtiss-Wright Aeronautical, he returned to Old Town in 1945, to become superintendent at Old Town Canoe Company, where he was employed for 32 years. The family would like to thank Drs. Cheff and Ritter and the entire staff at Orono Commons for their compassion and kindness. Jim leaves behind two sons, James Jr. and Robert, many relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Helene K. Cunningham. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by sisters, Phyllis and Joan; and one brother, George. Friends may call 1-3 p.m. Thursday, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town.
