KEY WEST, Fla., and BANGOR – James W. Laliberte, 54, died peacefully May 17, 2007, in his sleep, at his home in Ramrod Key, Fla., after a long and hard fought battle with cancer. He was born Sept. 13, 1952, in Bangor, to Creighton and Geraldine (Cox) Laliberte. Jim was a graduate of Bangor High School and self-employed for many years as an offshore saltwater fisherman in Key West, Fla. Fishing was the profession Jim truly loved. A quiet man, Jim had an easy smile, was cheerful in all weathers, loved many and was greatly loved by family and friends. He particularly enjoyed those private and peaceful opportunities when he could share his passion for deep sea fishing with his son, Paul, and many others. Later when no longer able to perform the rigors of fishing at sea, Jim was employed as an automotive parts department manager at Sears, Key West, Fla., and later was manager at NAPA Auto Parts, Big Pine Key, Fla. Jim is survived by special domestic partner, Lisa Walters of Key West, Fla.; his son, Paul Christopher Laliberte and family of Waterville; his mother, Gerry of Bangor; and his brother, Edward Laliberte and family of Alton. He was predeceased by his father; and a brother, Charles Laliberte. A private celebration of Jim’s life will be held June 2, in Key West, Fla., with a burial after at sea in his special, lucrative fishing spot that he loved so well. Friends may make contributions to the charity of their choice in Jim’s memory and also leave welcomed email remembrances at Bangorgp@yahoo.com
