DETROIT – Janet Thalia Sprague, 76, passed peacefully Friday, April 20, 2007, surrounded by her family and friends at Sebasticook Valley Hospital, Pittsfield. She was born Oct. 22, 1930, in Town Hill, Mount Desert Island, the daughter of Lynwood and Evelyn (Hamilton) Richardson. She was a graduate of Bar Harbor High School. She married Clyde W. Sprague, Sept. 12 1948, in Town Hill. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grand-mother, sister and friend. She was a member and past president of the Good Cheer Club, Detroit. Janet was an avid gardener and managed a home greenhouse business with her husband for many years, where she enjoyed interacting with the public. Her hobbies and interests included painting, knitting, quilting, baking, and caring for and spending time with her family and friends. Janet is survived by her husband of 58 years, Clyde W. Sprague Sr. of Detroit; her five children and their spouses, Clyde and Nancy Sprague of Attleboro, Mass., Diane and Philip Melanson of Plymouth, Denise and Ronald Lowe of Augusta, Mont., Richard and Susan Sprague of Bucksport and Dwayne and Anne Sprague of South Portland; her sister and husband, Marjorie and Robert Haggard of Manchester, N.H.; her brother and wife, Brian and Ellie Richardson of Mount Desert; 12 grandchildren and their spouses, Darcey and Victor LaPrade, Derek Melanson, David and Billie Melanson, Nicole and Patrick Boulay, Bridget Sprague, Billy Landenberger, Daniel Lowe, Kriston Lowe, Joanna Sprague, Jeffrey and Christine Morrison, Kenneth and Christina Morrison, Erica and Dean Leighton, Kathryn Sprague; 12 great-grand-children, several nieces, nephews and cousins. Janet was a gentle soul with a kind and generous spirit who forever touched the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed. Private graveside services will be held June 1, at Detroit Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, friends who wish may make donation to the Pine Tree Camp for Children and Adults.
