PATTEN and MONTICELLO Janette Swallow, 73, died Oct. 1, 2006, at Mountain Heights, Patten. She was born Sept. 25, 1933, in Monticello, the 11th of 17 children of Jesse and Beulah Swimm. Janette graduated from Ricker Classical Institute in 1952. She served in the Air Force for three years. She married Chester Rusk in 1957 and lived in the Wisconsin area. Janette was the first woman officer at the Burlington Wisconsin Police Department as a meter maid. After their divorce, she moved back to Monticello where she worked at Vahlsing’s, Easton and at the shoe factory in Houlton. Janette married her second husband, Paul Swallow in 1974. She enjoyed country music and loved to dance. Janette is survived by one daughter, Peggy Sue Rusk of Smyrna; six siblings and their spouses, Glen and Judy, Paul and Sue, Dale, all of Monticello, Robert and Judy of Granby, Mass., Autice and Russell Socoby of Eastport and Ruth Swimm of Houlton; sisters-in-law, Carol, wife of Lee, who predeceased her, Barbara, wife of Bernard, who predeceased her, both of Littleton, Hazel, wife of Fred, who predeceased her, of Monticello and Carol, wife of Garth, who predeceased her, of Maryland; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Erin and Sarah Bailey and their mother, Kim, of Presque Isle, Maxine Virgie, Terry and Sue Spinney of Houlton. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the Dunn Funeral Home with prayers being held 8 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Straubel officiating.
