PITTSFIELD – Jean (Van Winkle) Warren, 84, a resident of Maple Terrace, died peacefully April 9, 2007, at her home, after a period of failing health. She was born Jan. 16, 1923, in Passaic, N.J., the daughter of Ernest and Elizabeth (Dixon) Van Winkle. Jean grew up in Nutley, N.J. and graduated from Nutley High School in 1940. She went on to attend Skidmore College and earned an undergraduate degree from New York University in 1944. She later earned a master’s degree in special education. She had a business career in New York City then taught in the Montclair, N.J., public school system for 25 years. Jean enjoyed the many friends that she had made living and traveling abroad; particularly her friend, Havi Sanjana of Bombay, India, and all her friends that she had made in Maine. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Stephen Watts Kearney Chapter, Santa Fe, N.M. She cherished the friendships that she had in this organization and the good times that they had shared. She was a member of St. Ann’s Anglican Church, Campobello Island and most recently St. Martin’s Church, Palmyra. She was predeceased by her husband of 38 years, Quentin L. Warren in 1987; her parents; and her two brothers, Dixon C. Van Winkle and Kenneth R. Van Winkle. She is survived by two daughters, Donna Mary Chale of Pittsfield and Deira Beth Murray of Carver, Mass.; three grandchildren, David Chale of Pittsfield, Kate Murray of Carver, Mass., and Elizabeth Murray of Helena, Mont. At the request of the family, there will be a private family service held in the spring at St. Ann’s Church, Campobello Island. Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Camp Bishopswood Diocese of Maine, 143 State St., Portland ME 04101. Arrangements are entrusted to Donald H. Shorey Funeral Chapel, 35 Hartland Ave., Pittsfield.
