TROY – Jerome G. Shibles, 76, died Dec. 13, 2007, at a Pittsfield hospital, after a long illness. He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Troy, son of George and Mildred (Braley) Shibles. He was educated in Troy schools. Jerome was employed in road construction for several years and later in life he was employed at Northeast Shoe Co., Pittsfield, as a hand sewer. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. His favorite hobby was raising and caring for his honeybees. Jerome is survived by his companion, Valerie McDougal of Palmyra; two sons and their spouses, Richard and Yong-Hai Shibles of LaFargeville, N.Y., and Robert and Denise Shibles of Troy; one daughter, Lisa Emerson of Pittsfield; three brothers and their wives, Lawrence and Donna Shibles of Hartland, Willis and Carol Shibles of Troy, and Allen and Marketta Shibles of Plymouth; three sisters, Mary Sprague of Palmyra, Shirley Stover of Augusta and Susan Bishop and her husband, Earl, of Athens; five granddaughters, Chantal, Crystal, Ann-Yong, Stephanie and Shannon; two grandsons, Steven and Matthew; 12 great- grandchildren, several nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be missed by his two black cats. He was predeceased by his son, Heath. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, at Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Service Center, 34 High St., Newport. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, at the funeral home with the Rev. Todd Sprague officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in the spring.
