SOUTHWEST HARBOR – Jerry Richard Nichols, 66, the son of Vera S. Langley and the late Ulman R. Nichols, died Aug. 3, 2006, at home. He was born June 18, 1940, in Selma, Ala. He attended Satsuma schools and joined the Air Force at the age of 17. He was stationed in New York, Alaska and Dow Air Force Base in Bangor. He and a group of his buddies traveled to Bar Harbor and in time they all married their Bar Harbor sweethearts. Mr. Nichols worked for Acadia National Park, the town of Bar Harbor, Joe Cunningham, Harold R. MacQuinn Inc., Colwell Diesel and lastly, Downeast Diesel. He is survived by his mother; brothers, Michael and R. Wayne of Alabama; daughters, Christine Harding, Jennipher Nichols and Cara Nichols. He is also survived by six grandchildren; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Nichols was predeceased by his wife and companion for more than 30 years, Marie (Alley) Nichols; his son, David; and his daughter, Aimee. At his request, funeral services will not be held. A gathering of friends and family will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Christine and Dale’s to celebrate Mr. Nichols’s life.
