KENNEBUNK – Jessica “Jessie” Hodsdon died unexpectedly Friday, Nov. 3, 2006. Jessie was born Sept. 2, 1985, and spent her entire life with her family in Kennebunk. Jessie attended Kennebunk schools, receiving her diploma from Kennebunk High School in 2003. Jessie was a people person becoming friends with practically everyone she came in contact with. She was involved in many activities, including Girls Scouts, grade school basketball, field hockey and school band. The passion of her teenage years was horseback riding, both for pleasure and competition. Although Jessie was a gentle soul, she was also a determined and accomplished equestrian competitor. Jessie competed with her horses Honey, Sonny and Joe Perry, at local and regional events from her local barn Hi-Stepping Equestrian Center, Arundel, to the Hollis Equestrian Center, Skowhegan State Fair, Deerfield, N.H., State Fair and her favorite, the Eastern State Exposition, Springfield, Mass. In 1999 Jessie attended the World Championship competition in Louisville, Ky., with her friend, Morgan Towne, who was competing in this international event. Jessie had a smile that would light up the room, it was always an uplifting occasion to be around her. She was intuitive and insightful, especially with regard to interpersonal communication and relationships. In these areas she had wisdom well beyond her years and friends and relatives of all ages learned much from her. The illness that caused her life to end at such a tender age was cruel beyond most people’s imaginations, but she endured all the pain and suffering dealt to her without complaint. She was a fighter who did all she could, for a year and half; to resist and overcome her disease but, in the end, this wonderful, young friend, daughter, sister and relative couldn’t fight any longer. Her personal reflections in her diary over the last few months indicated that she knew that she was going to heaven and wanted to be an angel there, helping and ministering to others. She is survived by her loving family, her mother and father, Stephen and Denise Hodsdon; her older brother, Andrew Hod-sdon; her younger sister, Allison Hodsdon, all of Kenne-bunk, as well as her many friends and extended family who grieve immensely but know that she is finally at peace. Visiting hours will be held 2-4 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 7, at the Bibber Memorial Chapel 67 Summer St., Kennebunk, where a funeral services will be held 4 p.m. at the Chapel. Should friends desire, memorial donation may be made in Jessica’s memory to National Alliance on Mental Illness Donor Services, 1 Bangor St., Augusta, ME 04330.
