HAMPDEN – Joan Ruth (Archer) Chase, 74, wife of the late John “Jack” Chase, passed away peacefully May 30, 2007, surrounded by her family at her home. She was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Mapleton, the daughter of Everett and Vera (Pendexter) Archer. Joan was a resident of Hampden for the past 44 years and was the school lunch manager for 29 years at the McGraw School, Hampden. She was a member of the Star in the East Chapter No. 17 OES of Hampden, and the Hampden Congregational Church. Joan volunteered at the Hampden Community Food Cupboard, Roe Village and was active in the Hampden Senior Citizens. Joan will be remembered as a dedicated daughter, wife, mother and friend to all she came in contact with. She will be sadly missed by her family and many friends. She is survived by her children, Kevin Chase and wife, Stacey, Jaska Black and husband, Arnold “Bo,” Neal Chase and wife, Rebecca, Neta Lingley and husband, Scott, Lori Gallant, and John Chase Jr. and wife, Regina; grandchildren, Sarah, Andrew, Alexandra, Heather and husband, Abe, Brienne, Benjamin, Nathan, Zachary, Libbi, Kasey, Janna, Laura, Alisha, Drew, and Billy; a former daughter-in-law, Susan Brown; nephews and cousins; and special friends, Connie McCrum, who was like a sister to Joan, Yvonne Lambert, Lillian “Tucky” Jellison, Galen Swan and Evelyn Russell, Perley and Laura, Pete and Joyce Pendexter. Joan was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, Everett and Vera; a sister, Faye Archer; and brother, Phil Archer. A service of thanksgiving and remembrance will be held 4 p.m. Saturday at Hampden Congregational Church, Main Road North, Hampden, conducted by the Rev. Dr. Deborah M. Jenks, pastor of the church, officiating. A time of visitation will be 3 p.m. Saturday until time of service. A continued time of visitation with refreshments will be at Joan’s home, 255 Coldbrook Road, Hampden.
