MILLINOCKET – Joan J. Cyr, 68, wife of the late Renis A. Cyr, died peacefully Nov. 15, 2005, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer at a local healthcare facility. She was born Oct. 23, 1937, the daughter of the late Paul T. and Cecile (Belanger) Cyr. Joan graduated from St. Martin of Tours in 1955. Joan was a dedicated member of the Stearns Athletic Boosters Club. Once elected president of the Stearns Boosters, it became a lifetime presidency. She was a great friend to the athletic department. She was instrumental in getting scholarships for athletes. For more than 20 years, she was a grandmother to all the Stearns athletes and a mother to the coaches. She saw to it that all the athletes were rewarded. She and her helpers raised thousands of dollars, whether it be Super Bowl sandwiches, Christmas wreaths or cooking hot dogs, she never said no. When asked permission to spend money, “It’s all right with me,” she’d say and proceed to find a way to cover it. As a small tribute to her dedication and years of hard work, one of the concession stands at Stearns was dedicated to her. She will be sadly missed by a close and dear friend, Claire Daigle; a special niece, Roberta Pelkey; bat mobile driver, Robin Knowlton; her special sister-in-law, Ruth Cyr, her soulmate; Rachel Cyr and Sally Duplisea for the help with the Boosters. Joan married Renis A. Cyr, Aug. 23, 1958 and had three children, Jean Cyr of Millinocket, Debra A. Cyr of Portland, Anthony M. Cyr and his friend, Stephanie Good, of Bangor. She was predeceased by one infant son, Renis A. Cyr. Joan is also survived by her grandsons, Jason M. and his wife, Kristin Cyr, John Mackin III, all of Bangor; one special great-grandson, Keegan Cyr; three sisters-in-law, Ruth Cyr, Theresa Cyr and Jenny Cyr; brothers and sisters-in-law, Robert and Rachel Cyr, Wilfred and Ann Cyr, Charlene Caron, Regina Taggatt; several special nieces and nephews and their families. Besides her parents, Joan was predeceased by her siblings, Roland, Edmund, Camille, Ludger Cyr. Friends may call 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, at R.L.
