ORONO and BANGOR – Joan M. Harris, 88, wife of the late George N. Harris, died June 27, 2008, after a brief illness. She was born April 6, 1920, in Foley Brook, New Brunswick, the daughter of Carl C. and Nellie L. (Brown) Peterson. She was a graduate of Woburn High School, Woburn, Mass., Class of 1938. After her marriage to George, Sept. 24, 1944, she traveled extensively all over the country as a loving military wife. While stationed in Newfoundland their daughter, Kim was born. Joan enjoyed homemaking and being a wife, mother and especially a grandmother to her very special granddaughter, Ashley. She loved playing cards and bingo and was an avid crossword puzzle solver. She never met one she couldn’t solve! She was happy to live the last nine years with her daughter and her family in Orono. Surviving are her daughter, Kim Harris and her husband, Joe Tudder; her granddaughter, Ashley Tudder, all of Orono; a sister, Joyce McCarthy of Dracut, Mass.; nieces, Cindy Clark and her family of Billerica, Mass., Linda Maloney and her family of Everett, Mass., Karen Locke and her family of Wilmington, Mass., Lori Peterson and her family of Woburn, Mass., and Joan Franks and her family of Lowell, Mass.; nephews, David Peterson and his family of Nashua, N.H., and Wayne Peterson and his family of Woburn, Mass.; and her special friend and hairdresser, Sherrie. She was predeceased by brothers, Alban and Charles Peterson; a sister-in-law and her husband, Barbara and John Ragucci; and a nephew, John Ragucci Jr. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, July 1, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with the Rev. Carl Bergman, pastor of New Hope Church, Bangor, officiating. Relatives and friends are welcome to call noon until time of service Tuesday. Interment will be at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, after the services.
