SOMERSET, Ky., and CARMEL – Joan M. “Maddie” Franciosi passed away June 24, 2007, in Kentucky, after a very brief illness. She was born Aug. 22, 1933, in Carmel, the daughter of Hollis and Marion (Foss) Smith. Joan was a member of the Bethany Baptist Church, Somerset, Ky. She was a CNA for many years in Bangor and Kentucky. She was also an avid horsewoman and will be sadly missed by the horse community. Her joy was her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is survived by her three children, Joann (Hamm) Knowlton, Peter Franciosi and wife, Jen, and Kathi-ann Scribner and husband, Ron “Ronnie”; 10 grandchildren, Philip Hamm and his wife, Danean, Daniel Hamm and his wife, Mary, Richard Sylvester, Kamak? Franciosi, Kaialani Franciosi, Kawkia Franciosi, Kylie Kirk, Emily Gilreath, David Scribner and wife, Shannon, and Lisa Stigile and husband, David; 13 great-grandchildren, Taylor Bronwyn, Corbin, Dominic, Colvin, Santino, Marya, Emily, Samuel, Kristen, Ethan and Caleb; one sister, Bonnie Partridge; one brother, Arnold “Rocky” Smith; one very special sister-in-law, Gia Franciosi; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Also, two very special friends, Serena Jenkins and Berl Bray, her care giver in Kentucky; also her pastor, lsaiah and his wife. She was predeceased by her husband, Peter R.G. Franciosi; and two brothers, Russell and Wayne Smith. In accordance with Joan’s wishes, there will be not viewing or funeral. There will be a graveside memorial service held at a later date.
