ROCKLAND – John Davies Rolerson, 86, of Rockland passed away on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2004, at Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill in Camden. He was born Jan. 18, 1918, in Belfast, the son of Leslie and Annie Rolerson. He lived at Islesboro until joining the army in March of 1941. John went to the South Pacific in October, 1942, and saw action at Guadalcanal, Russell Islands, Rendova, New Georgia, New Guinea and Luyon in the Philippines. He was discharged in 1945 and was a member of the 43rd Signal Co. Veterans Association. John loved golf, hunting and baseball. He still had hope for the Red Sox and Cubs. He married Naomi Jackson in May of 1947. He was predeceased by his wife, Naomi; and his brothers, Jess and Dave. John is survived by his siblings, Mary Grinnell, Nellie Coombs, and Lamont Rolerson; a son, Darryl Wood and wife, Frieda; grandchildren, Darryl Wood and wife, Becky, Scott Wood and Christine, Gene Schleh and wife, Jennifer, Kristine Desjardins and husband, Dwaine, and Bruce Schleh and wife, Kate; great-grandchildren, Naomi Rose, Natalie, Alexander, Ian, Bethany, Nicholas, Darryl; and special friend Marianne Cook. The family has requested no flowers or donations, only that you buy a pound of Kirshner Hot Dogs and think of John while you enjoy a treat. Arrangements are under the care of Cremation Services of Maine, 182 Waldo Avenue, Belfast.
