KENNEBEC – John F. Sebastian, 85, passed away May 7, 2006 at his home under hospice care. He was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Mitchell, S.D., the son of the late Earl and Mary Ann (Osgood) Sebastian. John served in the merchant marines during World War II. He then worked as a stationary engineer for New York City, N.Y. He moved to Machias in the 1980’s and had been a generous patron of arts and literature throughout the area. He is survived by his longtime partner, Sonia Mawby and her daughter, Marjorie. He was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy (Collins) Sebastian in 1983. A memorial service will be held at a later date to be announced in the fall. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to Porter Memorial Library, 52 Court St., Machias, ME 04654.
