SEAL BEACH, Calif. – John H. Shedd Sr., 93, husband of Amelia Shedd, died June 28, 2006, after a long illness. He was born Dec. 30, 1912, in Mattawamkeag, the son of the late Carroll and Achsa Shedd. He grew up in Mattawamkeag where he worked in the family lumber business. During World War II, he and his wife, Amelia, worked in the Portland shipyard as machinists, building Liberty Ships. Later he lived in Lincoln and Bangor. He retired from the federal government after working for the U.S. Air Force in civil engineering at bases in Bangor, Plattsburg, N.Y. and Boston. When he retired, he returned to his beloved Cold Stream Pond in Enfield. He lived in Seal Beach, Calif. in the winter. He was active in the Masonic Order. He was a master mason and was a past master of his lodge. He was a member of Maine Council, Order of High Priesthood, Pine Tree Lodge No. 172, Mount Horeb Royal Arch Chapter No. 49 in Mattawamkeag, Saint John’s Commandery and Anah Temple in Bangor. He is survived by his wife, Amelia Shedd of Seal Beach, Calif.; his son, John Shedd Jr. and wife, Pat, of Rossmoor, Calif.; two grandchildren, Scott Shedd and wife, Pam, of Peoria, Ariz. and Tracey Juan of Cypress, Calif.; five great- grandchildren, Matthew Egan and wife, Gaea, of Cupertino, Calif., Brittany Shedd and Colin Shedd of Peoria, Ariz., and Derec Juan and Brandon Juan of Cypress, Calif.; and one great-great-grandson, Ares Egan of Cupertino, Calif. His brothers, Prince, Phil, Howard, Carroll Jr. and Kenneth Shedd predeceased him. A private funeral and interment will be held July 8, at Forest Lawn Cypress, California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, 163 Lancaster St., Suite 160B, Portland, ME 04101 or to a charity of one’s choice.
