JOHN J. MEENAN JR. ORRINGTON – John J. Meenan Jr., 67, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, with his loving wife and children by his side, after a long and tiring two-year battle with cancer, at his home. Upon his retirement from the University of Rhode Island, he and his wife, Wanita, moved to Maine, September 1990, to be closer to their children. John will be remembered for his witty personality, his love of God, life, family and friends. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Orrington for four years. He is survived by his wife, Wanita (Smith) Meenan; his children, Laurie Meenan of Rhode Island, John Meenan of Alaska, Donna Bates of Bradley, Denise Morrill and husband, James, of Orrington, Patricia Morrell and husband, Steve, of Massachusetts, Clayton Kuhn and wife, Jennifer, of Brooks and Wade Kuhn of Sangerville, 19 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. John was predeceased by a granddaughter, Cheyenne N. Morrell, Dec. 19, 2007; and his dearest friend, Alan P. Vienneau, March 4, 2008, the three spent hours comforting each other during chemo and radiation treatments, sharing feelings and experiences that only the three of them could understand. A memorial service will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, May 17, at First United Methodist Church, Center Drive, Orrington, with Pastor Brenda LaClair officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale, Memphis, TN 38105.
