PRESQUE ISLE and MASARDIS – John Orr Cain, 84, died Monday, April 3, 2007, at a Presque Isle hospital. He was born Jan. 30, 1923, in Masardis, the son of Dow J. and Alice (Orr) Cain. John was a graduate of Ashland High School. After graduation he joined the U.S. Navy and served his country in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the war, John worked many years for the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. When he wasn’t working, John enjoyed time woodworking and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 9699. He is survived by his wife, Mona (Cray) Cain of Presque Isle; three sons, Stephen Cain Sr. and his wife, Margaret, of Presque Isle, Warren Cain Sr. and his wife, Barbara, of Milo, and John Cain II and his wife, Ann, of Yarmouth; eight grandchildren, Stephen Jr. of Portland, Warren Jr. and his wife, Rita, of Smyrna, Michael and his wife, Karole, of Sumter, S.C., Jason and his wife, Ricia, of Orono, Joey of Houlton, Nicole, Cody, and Cameron, all of Yarmouth; four great-grandchildren, Jacob, Lauren, Kiersten, of Sumter, S.C., and Nolan John of Orono; two sisters-in-law, Gladys Cain of Presque Isle and Arlene Fletcher of Mars Hill; several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his three brothers, Clair, Clifford and Frederick; and a sister, Hazel McHatten. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 5, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with the Rev. Donald Morton officiating. Interment will take place in the spring at Masardis Cemetery. Those who wish may contribute in John’s memory to Masardis Pentecostal Church Bus Fund, care of the Rev.
