AUBURN – John Paul Jones, 75, a resident of Auburn, and former resident of Brewer went home to be with the Lord April 22, 2005, at Central Maine Heart and Vascular Center in Lewiston, after heart surgery complications. He was born May 11, 1929, in Lewiston the son of Paul E. and Dorris M. Jones. After the death of his mom, he was lovingly raised by his stepmom, Eunice E. Jones. John graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1947. Since then, he had been an active member of the Class Reunion Committee at Edward Little High School. In 1950, he graduated from Bliss Business College in Lewiston. He served in the U.S. Navy as a storekeeper from 1950-1954. In 1954, he went to work for Park Motor Mart as a stockman and then on to Hall and Knight Hardware Company in Lewiston for 35 years from where he retired. After his retirement he dedicated his time to the Clover Manor Day Care and Pre School of Auburn as a volunteer foster grandparent. John was an avid sports fan, following his children and grandchildren in their sporting events. He also was a fan of Maine Black Bear sports, the Portland Sea Dogs, and the Boston Red Sox, as well as the New England Patriots. John was a long time member of the Auburn United Methodist Church where he was a past member of the men’s club and enjoyed singing in the choir. John is survived by his dear wife of 52 years, Joan of Auburn; three children, William and his wife, Kathy Jones, of Lewiston, Elizabeth Briggs and her husband, Kevin, of Brewer and Steven and his wife, Jackie Jones, of Bangor; five grandchildren, Amanda and her boyfriend, Corey, of Portland, Matthew of Lewiston, Jessica and her husband, Jason, of Holden, Kristofer of Brewer, and Ryan of Bangor; two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Kolby of Holden, many friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his mother, father, and stepmother. Visitations 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, at Fortin/Auburn. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, at United Methodist Church, Park Avenue, Auburn. Committal will be at Mount Auburn Cemetery.
