FORT FAIRFIELD – John W. Michaud Sr., 80, passed away Thursday, June 1, 2006, at a Presque Isle healthcare facility after a brief illness. He was born Feb. 8, 1926, in Ashland, the son of Phedime and Rena (Charrette) Michaud. John attended Ashland and Presque Isle schools, was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II having serviced as a driver for General Patton while in Germany and was a sharpshooter. He was married to Ella Mae McGary Dec. 6, 1947 and was employed as loading dock foreman at Potato Service Co. from 1962-1980. John was a life member of the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Fort Fairfield, was a member of the American Legion Walter Lovely Post No. 27, Fort Fairfield and attended the Bethel Baptist Church, Fort Fairfield, where he served as church deacon for several years. He was a family man, enjoyed fishing, gardening and woodworking and was an avid Red Sox fan. He is survived by his wife, Ella Mae Michaud of Fort Fairfield; four sons and daughters-in-law, John W. Michaud Jr. of Hebron, Conn., Steven and Dianne Michaud of Easton, Brent and Rhonda Michaud of Fort Fairfield, Scott and Donna Michaud of Presque Isle; two daughters and sons-in-law, Sue Ann and Jesse White of Coventry, Conn., Robin and Jeff Leighton of Fort Fairfield; 13 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great-granddaughters, Jasmine Raine and Isabella Rose; several stepgrandchildren and great-stepgrandchildren; several nieces and nephews. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Saturday, June 3, at the Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main St., Fort Fairfield. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday, June 4, at the Dorsey Funeral Home with the Rev. Mark Babin officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. A time of fellowship with refreshments will be held at the VFW Paul Lockhart Post No. 6187, Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield immediately after the interment service.
