BANGOR – Joseph Dennis Leen, 72, died unexpectedly Sept. 10, 2005, in Bangor. He was born Feb. 5, 1933, in Bangor the son of Sidney J. and Edna M. (White) Leen. Joe graduated from John Bapst High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was employed with Grants Dairy and the First National. He later was employed for many years with the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department, retiring in July 2005. Joe was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing with his golf partners. He is survived by his wife, Helen K. Leen of Bangor; four children, Jane Spaulding of Phoenix, Ariz., Kevin Leen and his wife, Mary, of Amherst, N.H., Judy Leen of Bangor, Jodie Gross and her husband, Mark, of Hampstead, N.H.; 12 grandchildren, Shelby, Jennifer, Kristy, Casey, Meghan, Ryan, Lee, Lauren, Hannah, Danielle, Michael, and Kayla; five great-grandchildren, Joie, Jimmy, Michael, Cody, and Sydney; a brother, Francis Leen and his wife, June, of Bangor; nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. John’s Catholic Church, with the Very Rev. Richard McLaughlin, pastor, celebrant. Interment will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Gifts in his memory may be sent to the Maine Veteran’s Home, 44 Hogan Rd., Bangor.
