HERMON and RESTIGOUCHE, QUEBEC – Joseph “Henry” Basque, 70, passed away Nov. 22, 2004, at his Hermon home. He was born March 10, 1934, the son of Daniel and Gertrude “Bertha” (Arseneault) Basque. Henry came to the states in 1953, and worked for Stone and Webster in East Millinocket. He worked in construction for 46 years. From 1962-1999 he worked for Susi Construction, Pittsfield, Tilcon Maine Inc., Fairfield, then Pike Industries, Inc. both in Maine and New Hampshire. He built many bridges in Maine and loved his work. After retirement in 1999, he will never forget Barry, Curt, and Mark who were so good to him. He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Shirley (Clark) Basque of Hermon; two daughters and their husbands, Mary Eileen and Allen Lawrence, of Levant, Cindy and Steve Allen, of Hermon; two sons, Byron and Wayne Basque, both of Hermon; one granddaughter, Andrea and her husband, Mike Crawford, of Hermon; two grandsons, Todd Lawrence and Allen Lawrence Jr. and his girlfriend, Jessie, all of Levant; two very special great- granddaughters, Krista and Kassie Crawford of Hermon; two sisters, Corrine Mitchell of Restigouche, Que., Mona Barnaby of Newcastle, N.B.; three brothers, Dan and his wife, Leona, of Shelton, Conn., Peter and his wife, Gerry, and Mark Basque, all of Restigouche, Que.; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Cathy Basque; and his friend and companion, his dog, “Tippy”. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Garrett, Dr. Villiote and all the staff of CancerCare of Maine for being so good to Henry, and also Hospice of Eastern Maine for all the care they gave him at home and for their support. Friends may call 7-9 p.m. Tuesday, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Wednesday, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bangor with the Rev. Thomas Lequin, pastor, presider. Interment will follow at Snows Corner Cemetery, Hermon. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Chapel Hill, Outer Hammond St., Bangor following the interment.
