BROOKS – Joseph L. Wildes, 88, of Brooks, passed away Sunday, Feb. 18, 2007, at a local hospital. He was born Nov. 24, 1918, in Monroe, the son of Ernest and Agnes (Ellis) Wildes. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he graduated from the Eastern Barber School, Bangor and ran his own barber shop in Brooks for 44 years. Joseph was a member of the Odd Fellows, Disabled American Veterans’, past master of the AF & AM Marsh River Lodge No. 102 and past commander of the American Legion Post No. 183. He ran the Beano tent for 20 years at the Brooks 4th of July celebration. Joseph enjoyed fishing, hunting and carpentry. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Darrell; and a sister, Leither Moody. Joseph is survived by his wife, Margaret (Downs) Wildes; three sons, Alston and his wife, Gwen, of Bangor, Eugene and his wife, Louise, of Hartford, Conn., and Randy and his wife, Beverly, of Marced, Calif.; a brother, Rudy; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the 1st Congregational Church of Brooks, UCC, with the Rev. Art Gowie officiating. Spring burial will take place at Pilgrims Home Cemetery, Mon-roe. Arrangements are under the care of Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast.
