OLD TOWN and GREENBUSH – Joseph S. LaBelle, 77, died Dec. 21, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. He was born June 4, 1928, in Old Town, a son of Dennis S. and Leona (LeBretton) LaBelle. He was a Korean War veteran having served with the U.S. Army from 1950-1952. He was employed at Penobscot Shoe and PCF (now Georgia-Pacific) for 41 years retiring in 1991. He was an avid Red Sox fan, loved Country and Western music, and enjoyed reading the newspaper. He was a true family man, enjoying his children and grandchildren’s presence. He is survived by eight children, Victoria A. LaBelle of Old Town, Joseph E. O. LaBelle and his wife, Cindy, of Cardville, James M. LaBelle of Glenburn, Laurie A. LaBelle of Old Town, John M. LaBelle of Old Town, Melissa M. Hill of Old Town, Peter R. LaBelle and his wife, Amy, of Brewer, Tanya LaBelle of Orono; a stepdaughter, Juanita Griffith and her husband, Bruce, of Nikiski, Alaska; 17 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; his girlfriend, Alice Voisine of Old Town; six sisters, Rose Dyer of Bangor, Kathleen Roy of Bradley, Selina Smith of Hampden, Sylvia LaBelle of Harmony, Leona Winslow of Bangor, and Anna Carr and her husband, Francis, of Old Town; a brother, Robert Roy of Hermon; and an uncle, Louis LeBretton of Brewer; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Marie Anne (Boucher) LaBelle in 1986; his parents, a brother, Dennis LaBelle; and a granddaughter, Trinette R. LaBelle. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday, at the Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, where members of the Knights of Columbus will recite prayers at 7:30 p.m. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday, at Holy Family Parish with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe, celebrant. Spring interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Old Town. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Immediately following the Mass all are invited to the Holy Family Parish Center for a light luncheon and continued fellowship.
