CALAIS – Julia W. “Jewel” Beckett, 84, died June 27, 2006, at Calais Regional Hospital. She was the wife of the late Gerry S. Beckett. Born March 25, 1922, in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, she was the daughter of Murray E. and Leila (Grant) Allen. She was a housewife and stayed at home until her children were grown. She then went to work for Beckett & Co. until 1978. She worked for a short time as an aide at Calais High School, until her retirement in 1980. She attended St. Anne’s Episcopal Church, Calais and was a member of St. Anne’s E.C.W. She is survived by her two sons, David Beckett and his wife, Patsy and Allen Beckett and his wife, Pam, of Calais; one daughter, Pat Sammer and her husband, Wayne, of Baileyville; seven grandchildren, Christopher Beckett and his wife, Mary, Jennifer Walsh and her husband, Noel, Martha Gordon and her husband, Robby, Matthew and Hollye Beckett and Joshua and Beth Sammer; two great-grandsons, Tristen and Colin Beckett; two sisters, Marge Cameron of Fredericton, New Brunswick and Elizabeth Cliffe of St. Stephen, New Brunswick; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Grant Allen. A graveside service will be held at St. Stephen Rural Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Anne’s Capital Campaign, in care of Anne McHugh, P.O. Box 699, Baileyville, ME 04694-0699.
