FORT MYERS, Fla., and STILLWATER – Katharine “Kit” H. Bartlett, 73, died Friday, Nov. 3, 2006, in Fort Myers, Fla. Kit was born in 1933, in Geneva, N.Y., daughter of the late Henry C. and Katharine Hill Hawley. She was married in 1953 to the late Merrill D. Bartlett. They were married for 51 years, living primarily in Stillwater until 1996, when they purchased a winter home in Fort Myers, Fla. Kit graduated from Orono High School in 1950 and then Katharine Gibbs School, Boston, in 1952. Kit was a past member of the Bangor YWCA Board of Directors and the YMCA HPER Committee. Kit was an avid golfer. She and her husband were members of the Penobscot Valley Country Club, Orono, for 40 years where she served a term as president of the Penobscot Valley Country Club Woman’s Golf Association. She was also a longtime member of the Women’s Maine State Golf Association, where she played in tournaments all over the state. In Fort Myers, Fla., Kit and Merrill were members of Estero Country Club at The Vines. She served a three-year term on the Estero Country Club Board of Directors and was also head of the entertainment committee. Kit was an active golfer and enjoyed her weekly matches with her friends. Kit was also an accomplished seamstress. Kit will be sorely missed by her family and friends. Kit is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Lynn C. Bartlett and Robin L. Latham; her son and daughter-in-law, Colonel Kenneth C. and Katie S. Bartlett; her grandchildren, Kenneth C. Bartlett Jr. “K.C.” and Dana K. Bartlett; her brother and sister-in-law, John “Jack” and Linda Hawley; and her sister and brother-in-law, Joan and Milton Brown. Kit also leaves many wonderful and dear friends both in Florida and Maine There will be a private family service and burial next summer in Maine.
