ORRINGTON – Kathleen A. “Kay” Mercier, 80, wife of the late David L. Mercier, died Jan. 23, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Long Pond, the daughter of Henry E. and Helena P. (Charron) McIntyre. Kay attended the Academy of St. Joseph in Berwick and was a 1942 graduate of Greenville Consolidated High School. She graduated from Mass. General School of nursing in Boston, Mass. and was employed and retired from Eastern Maine Medical Center. She was instrumental in developing infection control policy at EMMC. She was a recipient of the 1996 State of Maine Epidemiology Recognition Award in acknowledgement of her efforts toward promoting and protecting the health of the citizens of the state of Maine. Kay was an associate member of EMGH – EMMC Husson College Alumni Assoc., the Mass General Alumni Assoc., served as a corporator for the Phillips Strickland House, Bangor and was an associate member of the Burton Good Sargent Chapter of the Korean War Veterans. She was a communicant of St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer where she was active in St. Teresa’s Sodality. Affectionately known by her family as “Nanny,” Kay is survived by two daughters, Charron Lisnik and her husband, Frank, of Orrington and Kathleen Mercier Holt of Windham; two beloved grandchildren, Alyssa Cullen and her husband, David, of Niagra-on-the-Lake, Ontario and David Lisnik of Denver, Col.; two great-grandsons, Tyler and Landon Cullen; one niece, Nancy King of Bangor; and one nephew, Richard Jones of Greenville. In addition to her husband of 54 years of Orrington, she was predeceased by a brother, Robert McIntyre, MIA during Korean War; and a sister, Ruth Nowell. Family and friends may visit 6-8 p.m. Thursday, at Kiley Funeral Home, 69 State St., Brewer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated noon Friday, at St. Teresa’s Catholic Church, Brewer with the Rev. Joel R. Cyr, pastor, celebrant. A reception will immediately follow. Burial in the spring will be at Marston Cemetery, Orrington.
