CHERRYFIELD – Kathleen S. Fickett, “Mrs. Kay,” 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior Tuesday, June 10, 2008, at an Ellsworth health care facility. A lifelong resident of Cherryfield, she was born there Jan. 12, 1920, the daughter of the late Michael and Levinnie (Lee) Sullivan. Mrs. Kay was a graduate of Cherryfield Academy. She work-ed a lot of positions during her lifetime and even loved raking blueberries. Her love was children, and she was happiest in her job as a teacher’s aide at Cherryfield Elementary School for many years. There she was known as “Mrs. Kay” and to this day, former students still call her that. She was a member of Cherryfield Baptist Church for more than 60 years. She was a Sunday school teacher, deaconess and sang in the church choir. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Fickett, in 1986; a brother, James, in 1985; a sister-in-law, Julia, in 1989; and almost all of Paul’s family and spouses, Marguerite, Marie, Hollis, Harold and Evelyn; and mother-in-law, Josephine, in 1966. Family members include a daughter, Paula Farren and husband, Frank, who Kay loved as a son, of Cherryfield; sister, Edith Davis and husband, Elwood, of Cherryfield; a sister-in-law, Arlene Fickett of Norfolk, Va.; many nieces, nephews and friends. Many thanks to her caregivers at home, Edith, Carol, Janice, Kirby and Wayne. Without their continued support and care, she would not have been able to stay at home. Also a special thanks to the second floor nurses at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, who looked after her for the two days she was there, especially Pat. Services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, June 13, at First Baptist Church, Route 193, Cherryfield. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. Burial will after at Intervale Cemetery, Cherryfield.
