CARIBOU – Kathryn Irene Hersey, 86, wife of the late Donald Hersey, died Oct. 14, 2003, at Morehead, N.C. She was born in Caribou, Nov. 25, 1916, the daughter of Roy and Irene (Hoyt) Whittier. She was a graduate of Caribou High School and attended business college in Houlton. Mrs. Hersey was a lifelong resident of Caribou and was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she was a member of the mission circle. She was also actively involved with the Caribou Historical Society and the Caribou Extension. Kathryn enjoyed traveling, collecting seashells, and researching genealogy. She always enjoyed being with her family and friends and spending time with them. She is survived by one son, Merrill Hersey of Gray; one daughter and son-in-law, Elaine and Dr. Earl Gross of Morehead, N.C.; one brother, Raymond Roy Whittier of Caribou; three grandchildren, Emily and Ehren Gross and Kyle Merrill Hersey; one nephew, nieces, several great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as several great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews. Mrs. Hersey was predeceased by her husband, Donald, Jan. 31, 1990. Friends may call 5-8 p.m. Friday at the Mockler Funeral Home, 2 Reservoir St., Caribou. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2003, from the Caribou United Baptist Church, with the Rev. Fred Smith, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Friends who wish to contribute in memory of Mrs. Hersey may do so through the Caribou United Baptist Church Memorial Fund or the Caribou Historical Society.
