BANGOR – Keith F. Colpitts, 89, died Jan. 26, 2008. He was born July 25, 1918, in Brewer, son of Archie and Ina (Barchard) Colpitts. Keith served in the U.S. Army Air Force as a tail gunner on B-26 Martin Marauders and was attached to the 12th Air Force during World War II. Staff Sgt. Colpitts flew many missions during 1942 and 1943, and was awarded the Purple Heart, Air Medal with four Oak Leaf Clusters and also the North African Campaign Ribbon with three stars. Keith graduated from Bangor High School in 1936 and he was employed at Brake Service and Parts, Inc. for many years. He was a member of First Baptist Church since infancy and sang in the choir for many years. Keith was a member of Rising Virtue Masonic Lodge No. 10, Scottish Rite Bodies and Anah Shriners, serving with the Chanter Unit. Keith and his wife were fortunate to spend many winters at their condo in Largo, Fla., where he enjoyed tennis, shuffleboard and bridge. His family was very important to him, particularly his two grandchildren, Tonya, a recent Ph.D. graduate and Christopher a Ph.D. candidate. Surviving are his wife, Frances (Banks) Colpitts of Bangor; one son, Allan Colpitts and his wife, Stephanie, of Nashua, N.H.; two grandchildren, Tonya Colpitts of New Haven, Conn., and Christopher Colpitts of Hanover, N.H.; a sister, Phyllis Leach of Orrington; sister-in-law, Hilda Wardwell of Bangor; nieces, Bonnie Puls and her husband, Larry, of Bangor, Sandra Stolt of Arlington, Va., and Linda Littlefield and her husband, Tom, of York; nephews, John Wardwell and his wife, Tammy, of Bangor and Bruce Wardwell and his wife, Gabrielle, of Lucerne; great-nieces and great-nep-hews. Keith was predeceased by his parents; and a brother, Horace Colpitts. Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, at First Baptist Church, Center Street, Bangor, with the Rev. Stephanie Salinas, pastor, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends for a reception at the church after the service. Spring interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery, Brewer.
