BUCKSPORT – Lauren H. Campbell, 79, died Sept. 16, 2004, at a Bangor nursing facility. He was born Dec. 4, 1924, in Presque Isle, the son of William and Ida (Sleeper) Campbell. Lauren graduated from Patten Academy in 1941. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in World War II, Korean War and the Army Reserves. A lifelong Mason, belonging to the Masonic Lodge in Patten, he also worked as a milkman, mechanic, service manager, and a small business owner. Lauren was a firm believer in working hard and not being idle; and taking care of your responsibilities. Two of his favorite sayings were “As long as you learn one thing a day-the day is never wasted” and “I’m not napping – I’m just resting my eyes”. He will be lovingly missed by all his family. Lauren is survived by his loving wife, Shirley (Sibley) Campbell, of Bucksport; his children, Lauren Chesley Camp-bell of Stinson Beach, Calif., Bessie Moe of Machias, Fae Baur and her husband, Bill, of Lusby, Md., Levi Dam Jr. and his wife, Keely, of Otis, Rexford Dam and his wife, Esther, of Aurora, Colo., Bernard Van-Damme and his wife, Kathy, of Berwick, Leigh Spears and her husband, Robin, of Skowhegan, Margaret Rankin and her husband, Edward, of Bucksport, and Laurie Brooks and husband, John, of Dover-Foxcroft; 19 grandchildren, Christopher, Bonnie, Shirley, Amanda, Brandy, Kim, Jessica, Andrew, Megan, Bridget, Brianna, Cameron, Nicole, Amanda, Jeffrey, Holly, Edward, Christie and Audrey; five great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one daughter, Bonnie and her husband, Jere Wallace. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2004, at the Mount Repose Cemetery, Burlington, with Pastor Tom Bell officiating.
