HOLDEN and BRANCH POND Laurence “”Shorty”” Marshall, 76, passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, in Bangor. Larry grew up in Lincoln on the shore of Mattanawcook Lake. He was one of the Four Aces, all of whom built boats in high school. He graduated from Mattanawcook Academy, Class of 1950, soon thereafter meeting Joyce. He offered her a boat ride and she’s been riding in his boat for 54 years. He proudly served in the Army from 1953 to 1955. Larry spent many a year in the grocery business, first with the Mini-Mart, then after, with the Country Squire and East Newport Grocery. Finally he was a merchandiser for Kraft’s Foods. Larry loved his trips down South, was an avid square and round dancer and a member of many clubs, including the Levi Rounders. He loved living at the camp at Branch Lake with his two garages and many boats. He enjoyed rowing the “”me-do,”” his yacht and cruising around in the green boat, when it had enough gas. He rode with the Exiles on his Honda 350 and was a “”creative”” card/game player. Larry is survived first by his loving wife, Joyce, who figures that she has earned the right to be first after 54 years; his mother, Lillian Marshall of Dedham, Mass.; his sons, Laurence Marshall of Camden, his wife, Stephanie, and their son, Robbie; Donald Marshall of Ellsworth and his wife, Carol, and their children, Christopher of Bangor and Jennifer Rapp of Holden and her husband, Frank. He is also survived by his cousins, James and Paula Gordon of Haverhill, Mass., Carmen and Allen Bonney of Scituate, Mass., David and Margorie Gordon of Apa-che Junction, Ariz. Many thanks to Dr. Peter Cook and his staff. Family and friends are invited to a time of remembrance 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where those attending are asked to bring their favorite story and enjoy some refreshments. In lieu of flowers, anyone who wishes may make a donation to his or her favorite charity or to his favorite organization, the Levi Rounders.
