HOLDEN and BANGOR Laurence “Larry” William Woods, 60, died June 18, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. He was born Nov. 10, 1943, in Brewer, the son of Russell and Althea (Magoon) Woods. Larry retired from the Maine Central Railroad and was president of UTU Local 663 for several years. He then worked as an independent trucker for several years. Larry loved to fly and joined the Civil Air Patrol in high school. After retirement he received his pilot’s license and joined the CAP as a Senior Member. He worked his way up through the ranks and in 1996, became a Lieutenant Colonel and was Director of Operations of the Maine Wing. Larry always went above and beyond in everything he did and will be sadly missed by everyone in CAP. He was a former member of the American Legion Post 84, Orono, and the Bangor Flying Club, Bangor. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Myrna (Spencer) Woods of Holden; a son, Daniel W. Woods and wife, Valerie, of Holden; a granddaughter, Kirstin Kim Woods; a grandson, Matthew D. Foss; sisters, Linda Desjarlais and husband, Paul, of Bangor, Cheri Woods of Otis; a brother, Dexter Woods and wife, Jody, of Otis; a special cousin, Carolyn Koppenberger; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Kristin Kim Woods, in 1988; and two brothers, Russell “Rusty” Woods, and Garth Woods. Friends are invited to visit with the family 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 22, with the Rev. Peter Sprague officiating. Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery, Veazie. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at the Brookings-Smith Family Center, 163 Center St., Bangor, following the service.
