PRESQUE ISLE – Lawrence A. Jordan, 89, died May 7, 2008, at his home. He was born July 1, 1918, in Lincoln, the son of Pearl and Elvira (Flemming) Jordan. Lawrence served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the 57th Signal Battalion from 1941 to 1945, stringing communication lines along the front lines in North Africa, Italy, France, Austria and Germany. Upon returning home from the war, he went to work for New England Telephone, as an installer and repair person until his retirement in 1980. He was a member of Hayward-Frazier Post No. 2599 VFW, Presque Isle Fish and Game Club and Telephone Pioneers of America. He was predeceased by his wife, Erma Jacobs Jordan, in 1998. He is survived by two daughters, Nancy J. Jordan of Atlanta and Judy A. Frederic of Farmington; grandchildren, Jay Arnold of Atlanta, and Katherine Morton and her husband, John, of New York City; a brother, Harvey Jordan of Chester; sisters, Shirley Thurlow of Winn and Lorraine Leavitt of Millinocket; several nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends may call 3:30-4:30 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle, with graveside services to be held 4:45 p.m. at Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle, with the Rev.
