MILBRIDGE – Lawrence Brooks Sr., 76, passed away Feb. 5, 2006, at the Maine Veterans’ Home, Bangor following a long illness. He was born March 18, 1929, in Hancock, the son of Ralph W. and Lillian A. (Sprague) Brooks. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Army and obtained the rank of colonel. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries he received and was honorably discharged in 1952. He was a member of American Legion Post No. 8, Cherryfield. Lawrence loved the water and chose to be a lobster fisherman for the last 30 years. He enjoyed trout fishing and hunting (heater-hunting in later years). His last season was spent with a special friend, Leslie Perry Sr., who made it extra special for him. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Loreta M. (Oakes) Brooks; one son, Timothy Brooks; a granddaughter, Nicole Brooks, all of Milbridge; a brother, Paul Brooks and his wife, Linda; and sisters-in-law, Charlene Bagley, Mary Lunn and her husband, Lewis and Viola Brooks and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; two sons, Lawrence Jr. in 1980 and Randy in 1987; and one stillborn son, Thomas Lee in 1966. Burial will be at Morse Cemetery in Cherryfield. Arrangements will be announced later.
