UPLAND, Calif. – Lawrence Lorain Harris, born on June 14, 1923 in Cardville, died peacefully at home in his sleep on Nov. 24, 2004. His wife of 47 years, Evelyn Stevens Harris, passed away seven months earlier. Lawrence grew up in Milford, Maine and graduated from Hebron Academy before proudly serving three years in the U.S. Navy. After completing his service, being honorably discharged in 1945, he became an aircraft mechanic for Convair, and later for United Airlines. Lawrence then became an in-flight engineer for Eastern Airlines before a lengthy three-year labor dispute forced him to leave for a position with General Electric, where he spent the next 20 years as a small aircraft engine technical representative in cooperation with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corp. Lawrence’s last five working years were spent in Quantico, Virginia with HMX-1 a group responsible for the maintenance of Presidential helicopters. Retirement led him and his wife to Spring Hill, Fla., where they spent the twilight of their years together before moving to Upland, Calif. to be near their son, Michael Fowler, by whom they are lovingly remembered and greatly missed. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Mike Fowler at 535 North 8th Ave., Upland, CA 91786. Todd Memorial Chapel, Pomona, is in charge of arrangements.
