GOULDSBORO – Leigh T. Batson, 71, died unexpectedly at his Gouldsboro home Aug. 12, 2004. He was born Aug. 25, 1932, to Alton A. and Evelena (Tracy) Batson. Leigh graduated from Steuben High School in 1949. He was a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. For several years he worked for MDOT in Topsfield, tarring roads and plowing snow. He worked in the woods industry, cutting and hauling pulp wood with his father. He was employed as a security guard at NSGA in Winter Harbor, until his retirement. Leigh loved to hunt and fish and he enjoyed the great state of Maine. Leigh was married to Sheila (Jordan) Batson, with whom he had three children. He is survived by one daughter, Peggy Tracy and her husband, Dana; two sons, Harold Batson and his wife, Ann, Michael Batson and his wife, Kathie; three grandsons, Ben Tracy and his wife, Jessie, Bill Tracy and his wife, Melody, and Stephen Batson; two granddaughters, Kali and Kourtney Batson; and two great-grandchildren, Keaton and Lydia Tracy. Leigh is also survived by one sister, Martha B. Scott, her son, Robert and his family; one aunt and several cousins. He will be remembered by a lifelong friend, Bud Holland. At Leigh’s request there will be no services.
