MACWAHOC – Leland F. “Stu” Campbell, 72, died Nov. 26, 2003, at his home. He was born March 19, 1931, in East Corinth, the son of Maurice and Sylvia (Foss) Campbell. Stu served in the U.S. Armed Services in Korea where he received two Purple Hearts for being wounded in action. He later served in the MPs in Germany. During his younger years, he was for hire as a mercenary. He was a game warden during the 1950s, served on the police force in Bangor and was police chief in Mattawamkeag for a time. Stu was a registered master Maine guide for more than 50 years, working for Benedicta Lodge, Harry’s Lodge, Mountain View Lodge and others. He worked as a canoe guide on the Allagash for Speedy Elder. He had a lifelong love of guns, knives and traps and was a well-known trader. He was well known in the hunting world and was called frequently (almost every day) by sportsmen all over the country. He also enjoyed fishing. He is survived by his beloved companion of 17 years, Sheila Parker of Macwahoc; a daughter, Cheryl DeSalvatore, her husband, Tony, and their children, Tony Jr., Matthew, Lindsay, Ashley and Daniel; a son, Douglas Scott Campbell and his wife, Carrie, of Bangor; special stepson, Terry Whittier; stepson, Greg Jimmo; stepdaughters, Kim Jacobs and Karen Crommett; brother, Wilbur F. Campbell and his wife, Pearl, of Bangor; beloved brother, Sumner Campbell and his wife, Donna, of East Corinth; very special, beloved niece and nephew, Sonya Bragdon and Shawn Campbell; seven great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, at the Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home, with the Rev.
