WESTBROOK – Leona June Hawes, 92, formerly of Longfellow Place, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2007, at the Barron Center. She was born in East Corinth, the daughter of Albert J. and Annie M. McKinnon Chapman. She moved to Brewer as a child and returned to East Corinth, where she graduated from East Corinth Academy, Class of 1931. She moved to Gardiner in 1952. She did volunteer work for the Red Cross and worked in a Famingdale nursing home for several years. She moved to Westbrook in 1990. Leona was a member of AARP and the Westbrook Senior Citizens. She was predeceased by her husband, Leslie Hawes in 1985; and two sons, Albert in 1946 and Brian in 1991. She is survived by a nephew, Joe Smyth of Cumberland. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Corinthian Cemetery, East Corinth. Arrangements are by Blais & Hay Funeral Home, Westbrook. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Iris Network, 189 Park Ave., Portland, ME 04102.
