BANGOR and HAMPDEN Leona (Munson) Townsend Gochee, 86, went home to be with her Lord, Jan. 28, 2004, at a Bangor healthcare facility. She was born May 4, 1917, in South Gardiner, the daughter of George H. and Alice (Hayward) Munson. Leona was a member of the Beacon of Hope Church of God of Bangor and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She will be remembered as a loving and gentle wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She is survived by one son, Harmon C. Townsend of St. Petersburg, Fla.; four daughters, Opal Joslyn and her husband, Arnold, of Hampden, Bernadine Townsend of Hampden, Gloria Brown of Stafford Springs, Conn., and Naomi Learned and her husband, Kenneth, of Andover; 17 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; two nieces; one nephew; and cousins. She was predeceased by her first husband, Harmon R. Townsend in 1961; her second husband, Charles W. Gochee in 1998; and by two brothers and four sisters. A funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday at the Hampden-Gilpatrick Funeral Home, 45 Western Ave., Hampden, with the Rev. David Bean, pastor of the Beacon of Hope Church of God, officiating. Visiting hours will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at 1 p.m. Interment in the springtime will be in Linneus Cemetery, Linneus.
