BANGOR and LEVANT – Leroy ‘Bill’ D. Grondin, 73, passed away May 30, 2005, at a local healthcare facility surrounded by his family. He was born Jan. 30, 1932, in Bangor, the son of Rosanna Grondin McLeod. Bill lived most of his life in Bangor, then moving to Levant 13 years ago. He was a member of the National Guard in his early years. As a young teenager he delivered papers for the Bangor Daily News then worked as an “office boy” at the news. Later as a young man he worked as a distributor for several years. From there he went into the stereotype department ending his career in the mailing room in 1992 due to poor health. Bill enjoyed the family camp at Green Lake for nearly 30 years. He also enjoyed going camping with his friends in the Paul Bunyan Chapter of Good Sam Club, and riding his Moped. He was a member of the Penobscot Valley Acres Campground in Charleston for many years. Bill enjoyed snowmobiling and was a member of the Greater Bangor Area Snowmobile Club and more recently belonged to the Hungry Hollow 76ers in Levant. He will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Muriel Grondin; son, Richard Grondin and his wife, Gail; daughter, Lori Call and her husband, Gene; grandchildren, Ryan and Megan Call, and Heather Hazelton, all of Levant; sister, Eva Lake and her husband, Ivan, of Wrightstown, N.J.; nieces, Debbie Duerr of Ewing, N.J. and Candy Ronsick of Union, Mo., and their families. Bill was predeceased by his mother, Rosanna. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor, with Stanley Griffin, pastor, Corner Stone Baptist Church, officiating. Friends may call from noon until time of service. Interment will be in Waugh Cemetery, Levant. Relatives and friends are invited to share conversation and refreshments at the Hungry Hollow 76ers Snowmobile Club Horseback Road, Levant, following the services. Memorial donations in Leroy’s memory may be made to the Levant Rescue Squad, P.O. Box 220, Levant, ME 04456.
