FORT FAIRFIELD – Lester H. Achorn, 69, husband of Susan E. Achorn, died Tuesday evening, Sept. 14, 2004, at a Caribou healthcare facility of complications of COPD. He was born Nov. 6, 1934, at Fort Fairfield, the son of Ersy L. and Mae (Jensen) Achorn. He was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School, Class of 1951, and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Medical Corps having served during the Korean Conflict, earning the rank of specialist four. Lester was married to Susan E. Shaw on Oct. 21, 1961, and farmed in Fort Fairfield for 13 years. He was also employed by the Fred McGillian Co., Fort Fairfield and the Fort Fairfield Utilities District and was a former member of the Fort Fairfield Frontier Masonic Lodge AF & AM. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by three brothers, Frank Nelson, George Nelson and Gary Achorn. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan E. Achorn of Fort Fairfield; five daughters, Carrie Shaw and her husband, Steve, of Fort Fairfield, Carla Farnham and special friend, Wayne MacFarline of Presque Isle, Carmen Parady and special friend, Evans McLaughlin of Fort Fairfield, Amy Russell and her husband, David, of Madawaska, “Lester’s baby” Leslie Achorn and Lester’s best friend, Spencer, both of Fort Fairfield; three sisters, Sylvia Bernard of Fort Fairfield, Irene Hill of Marathon, N.Y., Olive Griffeth of Limestone; seven grandchildren, Jason Russell of El Paso, Texas, Justin Kinney of Limestone, David, Margo and Mallory Ferrier, all of Fort Fairfield, Matthew Russell of Madawaska, Riley Parady of Fort Fairfield; several nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, at the Green Ridge Cemetery, Caribou, with the Rev. Diane Langworthy officiating.
