MILFORD – Lila F. Vowles, 88, passed away Nov. 22, 2007, with daughter, Shirley Dou-cette; and granddaughter, Brenda Donaghy, her caregivers, at her side, at home. She was born May 26, 1919, in Old Town, the daughter of George and Addie Sibley. She owned Mac & Al’s, Old Town and in the late 1950s she owned the Golden Anchor, Costigan. Lila and her husband loved dancing on Saturday nights. She was predeceased by her parents; beloved husband, Arnold Vowles in 1989; son-in-law, Wilfred Doucette; and grandchildren, Michael Dou-cette and Julie Dalton. Lila is survived by her sons, Harland Harris and his wife, Grace, of Dover, Del., Roger Vowles and his wife, Karen, of Bradenton, Fla., Jerry Vowles and his wife, Dee, of Old Lyme, Conn., and Bruce Vowles and his wife, Roberta, of Redford, N.Y.; daughters, Starr Dalton and her husband, Jim, of Crab Orchard, W.V., and Shirley Doucette of Milford; 22 great-grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren. There will be no visiting hours. A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town, with the Rev. Bruce Stevens officiating. Family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Old Town Elks Lodge, Fourth Street, Old Town. A private interment will be later in the day.
