CORINNA – Lilla (Bragg) Eaton, 88, died Jan. 10, 2005, at a Bangor nursing home. She was born Feb. 10, 1916, at Glenburn, a daughter of Charles and Eva (Hersom) Bragg. She was a long time resident of Corinna, graduating from Corinna Union Academy, Class of 1934, as valedictorian of her class. She graduated from the University of Maine, with distinction, earning a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. She taught school in Corinna, Hartland, East Corinth and Stetson retiring in 1979, but continued teaching as a substitute. She was a member of the Morses Corner Baptist Church and was the last Charter member of the church. She served the church as church clerk, assistant organist, choir member, Sunday School superintendent, teacher and Deaconness. Lilla was a member of the National Education Association, the Maine Education Association and the Penobscot Retired Teachers Association. She was also a member and Past President of the Corinna Literary Club. After retiring in 1979, she and Crosby spent winters in Zephyrhills, Fla., and visiting their children in Virginia and Arkansas. They really enjoyed having Loraine and Carl in Exeter. Lilla loved children and spent much time with them. After they were grown and left home, she would do special activities with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other children in the neighborhood taking them sliding and skiing. In later years, making chocolates, decorating cookies on holidays, or making a collage of colored leaves in the fall with them. She especially enjoyed Linda (Worster) Harvey coming over and making ice cream. She and Cobby loved getting together with family and friends at their camp on Center Pond. Lilla was predeceased by sisters, Edith MacDougall, Gertrude Boody and Dorothy Young; and a brother, Carl Bragg. She was also predeceased by her husband Crosby “Cobby” on Oct. 10, 2004. They were married nearly 70 years. She is survived by a son, Kenneth Eaton of Leesburg, Fla.; two daughters and their husbands, Loraine and Carl Palmer of Exeter and Maxine and Jay Wheeler of Mt. Ida, Ariz.; eight grandchildren, Reginald and wife, Sharon Palmer, Rick Palmer and fianc?e, Susan Spear, De Anna and husband, Peter Hartel, Susan Eaton, Wendi and husband, Johnny Gwinn, Bonnie Martin, Brenda and husband, Gary Crane, Jason and wife, Alicia Wheeler; 11 great-grandchildren, Marci and husband, Devon, Ross, Luke, Ashley P., Ashley M., Lauren, Jenna, Kayla, Tracy, Corban, Bradley; and great-great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Kameron. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, with Pastor Stan Griffin and Pastor Clarence Arno officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. prior to the service. Spring burial will be in Morses Corner Cemetery, Corinna. A luncheon and time of fellowship will be held following the service at the church.
