PRESQUE ISLE – Lillian Lucy (Curtis) Ward, 89, died Feb. 23, 2005, at a Presque Isle health-care facility. She was born March 31, 1915, in Ashland. Lillian was the third of 11 children born to George and Ethel (Dobson) Curtis. She graduated from Ashland High School, Class of 1932. On July 1, 1950, she married Roy A. Ward; the couple made their home in the Mapleton and Presque Isle area. Mr. Ward died in 1989. Lillian was a member of the Presque Isle Wesleyan Church and resided for 17 years at McCulley Commons. She had taken care of the children of three area families, before going to work for Potato Service; she retired from Potato Service in 1971. Throughout her life Lillian enjoyed gardening, handcraft, reading the daily paper to keep current on world events, raising houseplants, traveling with her family, playing games with her family; she was also an accomplished cook. The continued expansion of her family brought her a special joy; a new baby cradled in her arms made her face luminous. She is survived by her three children, Dale Curtis and his wife, Marcille, of Greenville, Ohio, Helen Sweezey Thibodeau and her husband, Joseph, of Silver Spring, Md., John Michael Ward and his wife, Diana, of Freeport, Fla. Lillian raised the youngest of her three siblings, one of whom survives her, Goldie (Curtis) Ellis and her husband, Floyd, of Castle Hill. Also surviving are two other sisters, Susie (Curtis) Mileson and her husband, Richard, of South Portland, and Georgia (Curtis) Bacon (Mrs. Howard) of Red Creek, N.Y. Surviving grandchildren and great-grandchildren by birth and heart, Robert, William and Louise Curtis of Ohio; Delane Thibodeau and his wife, Laurie, their children, Brenden and Kerrigan of Waldorf, Md.; Deirdra Logan-Adams and her husband, Dennis, and their son, Stefan, of Portland, Jessica R. Ward of Ithaca, N.Y., Debra Ellis Smith and her husband, Richard, of Stockholm and her children, Laurie Woodman and Jennifer Woodman of Maine; Sheila Ellis Shirland of Topsham and children, Courtney, Zacharey and Lucas, Nancy Ellis Fenton and her husband, Douglas, of Aurora, Colo., and their children, Emily and Kate, Roger Ellis and his wife, Pauline, of Castle Hill; a stepgrandson, R. Walter Thibodeau of Tucson, Ariz., and his children, Jennifer and Kari; four people who were very special to her, Mark Woodman of Presque Isle, Deborah (Picard) Theriault of California and William “Bill” Picard and his wife, Coleen, of Florida; plus many cousins, three nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Thomas Thibodeau; brothers and sisters, Mrs. Chester (Sadie Curtis) Brown, Lewellyn Curtis, Mrs. Robert (Mabel Curtis) McNally, Wesley Curtis and his wife, Frances, Mrs. Arthur (Lulu Curtis) Boyles, Arthur Curtis, Catherine (Curtis) Oakes-Boyles. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Friday at the Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle. A Memorial Service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev.
