MADAWASKA – Lionel A. Dufour, 68, died peacefully Sept. 6, 2006, at High View Manor, Madawaska, after a brief battle with cancer. He was born March 11, 1938, in Madawaska, the son of the late Emmanuel and Yvonne (Dufour) Dufour. Lionel was a lifelong resident of Madawaska. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served from 1962 to 1964. He was manager of public finance of Madawaska for about 10 years, then was self-employed as an insurance agent for many years. Lionel was also a member of the Madawaska Lions Club and was past president of Le Club Acadien of La Maison Acadienne, Madawaska. Lionel is survived by a half brother, Leo James Dumond and his wife, Jeannine, of Madawaska; two half sisters, Noella Dumond Shraeder of Dover, Del., and Joan Dumond-Bowden of Goldsboro, N.C.; two sisters, Edna Dufour-Maloy of San Juan, Puerto Rico and Roberta Dufour-Hughes and her husband, Fred, of Panama City, Fla.; two brothers, Gerald and his wife, Bea and Joel and his wife, Valerie, all of Madawaska. He is also survived by two very special aunts, Sr. Cecile Dufour of St. Basile, New Brunswick and Marie Louise Raymond and her husband, Maurice, of Frenchville; 13 nephews, eight nieces, 13 great-nephews and seven great-nieces. Lionel was a godfather to a nephew, Brian Joseph Dufour of Presque Isle. A Mass of Christian Burial with military honors will be celebrated 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. David Church with Fr. David Raymond, cousin of the deceased and by Fr. Richard Ouellette as co-celebrant. Committal services will be held after the service in the parish cemetery. There will be no public calling hours at the Daigle Funeral Home, Madawaska. Friends and relatives are invited to gather Tuesday at the St. David Church prior to the Mass.
