BANGOR – Lloyd J. Gallegos, 79, of Swanville, died Sept. 3, 2004 at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born Feb. 10, 1925, in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Aaron and Cora (Jacobs) Gallegos. After graduating from high school in Salt Lake City, he served as a gunner in World War II, fighting for two years with the 754th Field Artillery Battalion in Europe, where he met his bride, Penny Bandrowsky. Returning to the United States, he attended Fenn College (now Cleveland State University) in Cleveland, Ohio. Later, he studied at the Art Students League of New York and worked in the hotel business. He was also a sculptor, sailor, puppeteer and poet. He loved to travel and spent many winters in Santa Barbara, Calif., participating in adult education classes. He is survived by a son, Richard James Gallegos of Northfield, Ohio; three grandchildren, Mark Gallegos of Northfield, Ohio, Jaclyn Gallegos Zywiec of Medina, Ohio, and Brian Gallegos of Stow, Ohio; a sister, Charline Harvey and her husband, Hank, of Wichita, Kansas; a cousin, Carlos Estrada of Aurora, Colo.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael, in 1994. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 10, at the Unitarian Universalist Society of Bangor, 120 Park St., with the Rev. Elaine Beth Peresluha officiating. Arrangements by Brookings-Smith Funeral Home.
