WINTER GARDEN, Fla. and ASHLAND – Lona M. Vinson, 82, passed away Thursday, June 23, at a Florida hospital. She was born Sept. 21, 1922, in Ashland, a daughter of Samuel and Rachel Oakes. She was an active member of the Advent Christian Church in Ashland and the First Baptist Church of Winter Garden, Fla. She is survived by her husband, Walter G. Vinson; sons, Gary E. Vinson of Safety Harbor, Fla., and Roy C. Vinson of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; sister, Joyce Bolstridge of Ashland; and brother, Samuel H. Oakes Jr. of Winter Garden, Fla. She was predeceased by two brothers, Clyde and Warren Oakes; and three sisters, Shirley Prue, Vera Humphrey, and Maxine Allen. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 25, 2005, at First Baptist Church of Winter Garden, Fla. Memorial services in Ashland to be announced in a later edition of the Bangor Daily News.
