BELFAST – Lorraine Donna Sobey, 72, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, Feb. 15, 2007, at Waldo County General Hospital. She was born June 5, 1934, in Newport, the daughter of Herbert and Marion Turner. She grew up in Newport and graduated from Newport High School in 1954. She worked for Maplewood Poultry for many years, and retired from Matthew Brothers after 15 years. She enjoyed sports, bowling and camping, and especially enjoyed going to the YMCA with all her friends there. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Mervin; and her two sons, Michael M. and Scott W. Sobey Sr. Lorraine is survived by her daughter, Elena Sobey-Bradford and her husband, Randy; three brothers, Mahlon Turner and his wife, Doddy, of Pittsfield, Arrold Turner and his wife, Marie, of Newport, and Sterling Turner and his wife, Rowena, of Newport; one sister, Elaine Turner of Newport; four grandchildren, Scott W. Sobey II, Melissa Sobey, Chelsea Sobey-Bradford and Hayden Sobey-Bradford; six great-grandchildren, Annabelle Fuller, D.J. Fuller, Dalton Fuller, Alex Sobey-Grass, Gage Sobey and Cynthia Sobey; several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Thursday, March 1, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast, with Pastor Warren Heath officiating.
