BRIDGEWATER – Louis B. Grass, 83, went to be with his Lord June 16, 2007. He died surrounded by his loving family, at Hospice House, Auburn, after a brief illness. He was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Blaine, the son of John and Sarah (Mullen) Grass Jr.; and brother to John Jr., Ella, Reuben and Mildred. Louis graduated from Aroo-stook Central Institute, Mars Hill, 1941. He attended the University of Maine in Orono for two years, majoring in agriculture. In 1948, Louis purchased an 80-acre farm in Bridgewater for $3500. He mar-ried Rowena M. Terrell and together they planted 12 acres of potatoes the first year and made enough profit to pay off the debt. Ten years later, Louis bought 75 additional acres. After 38 years of farming, Louis secured a much-loved position as a part-time immigration officer, working at the border in Fort Fairfield, Bridgewater and Houlton. Louis served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946, reaching the rank of staff sergeant and was stationed in Italy. Louis served as a board member with Child Evangelism Fellowship ministry for 30 years. He served on the board of directors of SAD 42 for seven years. Louis attended Faith Baptist Chapel, Blaine, serving as a deacon for several years. He later attended East Ridge Church, Mars Hill. Each year, Louis looked forward to spending time with his family at the Cabin on Whitney Pond, Oxford. Louis is survived by his loving wife, Rowena; his oldest brother, John Jr.; four children, Cynthia and her husband, Ronald Dunn, of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Victoria and her husband, Glenn Mc-Grath, of Doylestown, Pa., and their children, John, Benjamin, Michael and Hannah, Cathy and her husband, Marc Milliard, of Scarborough and their daughter, Maren, and Neal and Sharon Grass of Bridgewater and their children, Christopher, Danielle, Corey, Blake and Logan; and one great-grandson, William Anthony. Louis was predeceased by sons, Gregory and Christopher. Friends and relatives may call 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at East Ride Union Church, Mars Hill. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at the church with Pastor Lawrence Beals officiating. Interment with military honors will take place at Corner Cemetery, Bridgewater. Louis is lovingly remembered, sorely missed, but very happy to finally be in heaven! A special thank-you to the Dialysis Center of Presque Isle for the way they made Louis feel so special each day for eight and 1/2 years. Thank-you also to the employees on R5 at Maine Medical Center.
