PEABODY, Mass. – Louis J. Bourgoin, 88, of Peabody, formerly of Lynn, Mass., died Saturday, Jan. 14, 2006, in a local nursing home after a long illness. He was the husband of Bernadette N. “Bunny” (Nadeau) Bourgoin, with whom he shared 59 years of marriage. He was born in Frenchville, son of the late Joseph L. and Flavie (Siroux) Bourgoin. He was a graduate of Fort Kent High School and the University of Maine at Orono. He was inducted to the University of Maine Hall of Fame for his outstanding college career in basketball. He resided in Peabody for nine years, previously residing in Lynn for more than 55 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a sergeant during World War II. He was employed at the General Electric Company as a machinist in the Lynn & Everett Plants for 40 years until his retirement in 1981. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church and was a member of Local 201 IUE AFL-CIO and the GE Quarter Century Club. He also enjoyed golfing. In addition to his wife, he leaves one daughter, Nancy B. Nichols of Charlestown; one son, Charles R. Bourgoin and his wife, Beth, of Sparta, N.C.; one sister, Laurette Frank, of Madawaska; two granddaughters, Amanda and Emily Nichols; many nieces and nephews. He was a brother of the late Raoul, Donat, Emile and Hector Bourgoin, Lillian, Paul, Leon, Lucy, Nanette and Esther. Funeral services will be held 8 a.m. Thursday from the Cuffe-McGinn Funeral Home, 157 Maple St., Lynn, Mass. followed by a funeral Mass 9 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church. Interment will be in Pine Grove Cemetery.
